Merge the “you that changed” with the life you’re returning to.

Have you ever come back from a retreat, training, or deeply spiritual experience feeling transformed — only to walk into the same walls, routines, and conversations as before?

That’s where integration comes in.

People say it all the time: “Make sure you take time to integrate.” But what does that actually mean? And how do you do it?

Let’s break it down.

What Integration Really Means

Integration isn’t just about journaling or getting grounded (though both help).

It’s about weaving the “you that changed” into the life you’re returning to. It’s bringing your new insights, your new emotional set point, your new perspective — back into the rhythms and spaces that didn’t change while you were away.

Here’s the truth: you’ve changed, but your environment hasn’t. And that creates friction.

If you don’t pause to integrate, you might find yourself misaligned — trying to live in your old patterns with a new self that no longer fits them. That’s why integration matters.

How to Start Integrating (For Real)

Think of it like a drive home after a big trip.

  • On the way there, you’re filled with anticipation, hope, and excitement.

  • On the way back, you’re different. You’ve experienced something meaningful. Now, your job is to merge the “before” you and the “after” you.

Here are a few ways to do that:

  1. Reflect on what changed.
What was your emotional set point before? What’s different now?

  2. Notice your environment.
What feels the same, and what now feels “off”? Is it time for a conversation? An action? Or simply observation?

  3. Give yourself time.
Integration doesn’t have to take weeks. It could be a journaling session, a quiet walk, or a few days of gentle reflection.

  4. Find your metaphor.
One I love: integration is like two waves merging. At first, there’s turbulence, but eventually, they settle into one peaceful flow.

How to Know When You Need It

If you’re feeling:

  • Disoriented

  • Irritated by things that didn’t use to bother you

  • Like you’ve had a big “aha” moment that hasn’t fully landed

…then it’s probably time for integration.

The good news? It’s never too late. You can revisit a past experience at any time and give it the reflection it deserves.

Why It Matters

Integration isn’t about being perfect or doing it “the right way.”

It’s about giving your transformation a chance to take root.
It’s about making your growth real — not just something that happened for a weekend, but something that lives in you.

So here’s to taking the time to integrate. Because it means you’ve healed, shifted, and become more of who you’re here to be.
